The ISEVS (prior name ISES) was founded by Dr. Diethrich, a pioneered cardiovascular surgeon, and the founding Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Endovascular Therapy who chaired the ISES/iCON symposium in Arizona for many years.
Dr. Ourania Preventza is a cardiovascular surgeon and Professor of Surgery at the University of Virginia and Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Co -Director of Cardiovascular Service Line at University of Virginia Health. In addition, she was the first female cardiothoracic surgeon to be professor with tenure at the Michael E.DeBakey Department of Surgery, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and she is currently adjunct professor of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine and Associate Professional Staff at the Texas Heart Institute, in Houston. She worked for 15 years as an Attending Cardiac and Endovascular Surgeon at Texas Heart Institute, St Luke’s Baylor Medical Center in Houston. She is fellow of the American College of Surgeons and she is board-certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, the American Board of Surgical Critical Care and the American Board of General Surgery. Dr Preventza was trained by Dr Diethrich in all the percutaneous endovascular and catheter/ wire skills pertinent to cardiovascular surgeons. She holds a Management Business Administration degree in Health Care Policy and Leadership from Brandeis University in Boston.
Dr. Ourania Preventza’s main research interest is new technology in cardiovascular arena, and breakthrough percutaneous valve therapy in cardiac surgery, health care policy and management, aortic surgery, endovascular therapy and interventions, and aortic root reconstruction. She is a member in numerous surgical and non-surgical societies including the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association and the Society of the New York Academy of Science. She is the first author and co-author in numerous scientific articles and book chapters. She has received many honors and invitations for cardiovascular lectures nationally and internationally.
Dr. Preventza was the Co Chair of the 2022 ACC/AHA Guideline for the Diagnosis and Management of Aortic Disease: A Report of the American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology Joint Committee on Clinical Practice Guidelines (published November 3rd 2022). She is also a member of the writing committee of the European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgery for the upcoming 2023 Guidelines for Aortic Disease and a member of the task force for aortic disease within the Society for Thoracic Surgeons.
